Ed also mentioned that members have brought up discussion in the past of changing our San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalist Scholarship Fund name.  He has discussed this with our CPA, who has suggested that we keep this name legally and file a DBA (Doing Business As) in order to use San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalist Foundation for organizational purposes.

Mac questioned the status of our corporate taxes.  Ed stated that he is in the process of taking care of this with our CPA.

Old Business:

OLLUSA: SAAHJ has been given a new office location.  We have moved to a more convenient and private office on the first floor of the OLLU main building.  Our office phone number is 431.3996, and voicemail is available.  Our website is up and active and remains www.saahj.org.

Banquet Update: Maclovio stated that he had a meeting with the Cortez family, and they are extremely excited.  The Cortez family commented that they are committing to assist with the purchase of five tables, and will be providing a mailing list.

The Cortez family will be providing photos for publicity purposes.  Roy Galvan of WOAI-TV has volunteered to be responsible for the video, which will be shown at the evening of the event.

A total of approximately 70 save the date letters have been mailed.  A committee for the formal invitations will be meeting soon, which will be mailed out in mid June.  If you should have any potential table sponsor references, please let Maclovio Perez or Veronica Serrano know.

An official letter on the behalf of SAAHJ has been mailed to Muñoz Public Relations regarding the mailing list State Farm was requesting.  SAAHJ will not be providing State Farm with a mailing list of our members.

Carol gave members an update on the Silent Auction for the event.  She passed around a list of past contributors to members to verify point of contacts.  She is requesting potential auction items that have a value of $500 or more to be incorporated into a top 10 list of auction items.  Current contributors on this list are Southwest Airlines, Continental Airlines, Bjorns, and Gibson Guitars.

Maclovio asked members for suggestions on how to bring more Latino culture to the event (i.e. decorations, desserts).

SAAHJ Scholarship: Robert Luna is the Chair of the Scholarship committee.  The deadline is May 29th.  Judging of the entries will occur in June.

High School Writing Contest: Bertha Lopez is the Chair of the Writing Contest committee.  The deadline was extended to the end of May.  Maclovio has received 12 more entries from Health Careers HS and Harlandale HS.  Maclovio would still like to have 5 to 10 more entries.

Ed Tijerina motioned to talk about revisiting how to market the writing contest better next year; Hernán seconded the motion.  Motion was approved.
