Old Business

2007 Gala

Mary reported donor letters were sent out two weeks ago and we have four tables sold. Allison Beshur will take over as Silent Auction Chair. Allison reported we have six items for auction and she is targeting previous donors for more items as well as building a new list to work from.

Nora gave Mary a list containing friends of Charles O. Kilpatrick who should receive donor letters.

Elaine asked about the honoree video. Nora or Mary will get a list of people to interview from Mr. Kilpatrick. Mr. Kilpatrick would like Father Elizondo to officiate at the gala. Mary will follow up with a letter.

Nora will oversee the photography donations for the silent auction. She plans to keep the cost low by purchasing standard size mattes and frames at local craft stores provided these items are either on sale or priced reasonably.

The scholarship applications have been mailed out. Mary stated we will see an influx of applications received towards the end of the school year. Mary and Nora will start working on the invitation. Association members will receive their invitations in June.

4 Joe’s Benefit

Patricio thanked the volunteers who helped out. A total of $4,114.60 was raised at the event and a $10,000.00 donation from Valero was deposited into the Joe Sandoval Fund. A warm thank you to Ed Tijerina for setting up the fund followed.  Patricio said that Joe was weak from the treatments he has been receiving, but grateful for all the donations. Patricio has a roll of tickets and some books to donate to JoeApalooza.

JoeApalooza-Joe Sandoval Benefit

Ed announced that JoeApalooza will take place on Sunday, March 25 at the Agape Adult Daycare. Ed passed out flyers to be posted as well as copies of a press release for JoeApalooza. Ed said that he can send these electronically. Music will be provided by Five Star Band, MDs and Company, and the Liberty Band.  Johnny Hernandez will do the catering. Alamo Ale will donate four cases of beer. Ed mentioned that Kris Rodriguez, Allison Beshur and Melissa Vela-Williamson have graciously volunteered their time but he still needs more volunteers to help serve food and clean up. Elaine Rodriguez and Roxanne Reyes said they would help. All volunteers are to arrive at noon the day of the event. Ed will hold a separate meeting on Wednesday at the Agape Adult Daycare to discuss the set up. Several items such as coolers, bottled water, wine, soda, cups, beer and ice are still needed and a discussion followed as to who will be responsible for bringing those items.

Patricio- cooler, beer

Elaine- cooler, bottled water, beer, cups, ice

Roxanne- Big Red, Coke

Allison- Diet Coke

Martha- Diet Coke

Nora gave Ed a twenty dollar check to buy whatever he needs. Ed would like to have wine. Mary said to do without the wine. Nora suggested getting a box of wine. Mary reminded Ed to bring trash bags for clean up afterwards. Ed will check to see if the facility has an ice maker so that we don’t have to buy it. Ed will e-mail Roxanne the press release and the flyer for JoeApalooza to forward out to the membership.

New Business

Ed Leal accepted a position with Alameda and has resigned his position on the board as At-large Broadcast. Elaine announced nominations to replace Ed are being accepted and reminded everyone that the nominee must be in the television or radio industry. Elaine suggested Rosenda Rios or Ernie Villareal. Mary asked Ariana Romero if she would be interested in the position. Ariana said she would gladly but with the understanding that attending regularly scheduled board meetings and general meetings may be hard since she resides in Laredo, TX.  Mary informed Ariana that in order to be elected she will need to be present at the time of election. We will take nominations and vote at the meeting in April.

Announcements

Nora announced the National Writer’s Workshop will be May 19-20. We were asked to host again. Mary asked if they were buying a table at the gala. Ed asked if we could get some free passes to the workshop. Mary asked how much the registration fee was. Allison commented last year’s fee was $75.00. Mary asked where it was to be held this year.  Nora stated we would receive a table and be in the program. Ed felt it would be in our best interest to discuss the details at the next board meeting.

Martha Tijerina announced she will receive a Media Award from La Prensa on March 23. Everyone congratulated her.

Next meeting
Our next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 21 at Tito’s Restaurant on South Alamo.

Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m.

 Respectfully submitted,

Roxanne Reyes, in absence of Secretary Carol Schliesinger
