General Meeting
Minutes – May, 19, 2007
National
Writers Workshop
Members in attendance: Mary Anthony, Nora Lopez,
Elaine Rodriguez, Ed Tijerina, Alison Beshur, Dino Chiecchi, Nina Pruneda,
Melissa Vela-Williamson, Carol Schliesinger.
Elaine
Rodriguez called the meeting to order at 10:18 a.m. Introductions by all
present followed.
Secretary Report
Carol
Schliesinger asked if there were any changes or corrections to the April
minutes. Elaine made a motion to accept the minutes as submitted. Nora
Lopez seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Treasurer Report
Nora
Lopez reported the following account balances: Operating account: $5,153.87;
Foundation account: $77,570.53. Nora said the account balances will fluctuate these
coming months as the Association receives checks from gala sponsorships and
pays gala expenses.
Old Business
2007 Scholarship Gala
Mary said 15 tables have
been sold. Invitations will be sent in the coming weeks. Deadline to rsvp
for the gala is July 19. The individual reservation cost for members is
$45; limit two discount reservations per member. Rosenda Rios’s
husband, Larry Burns, is working on the video. More than 35 companies
have donated items for the silent auction. The postmark deadline
to apply for a scholarship is Saturday, May 26. Anyone
interested in sponsorships please contact Mary or Nora.
Hispanic Media Awards
Elaine
said the board decided to do a trade with the organizer of the Hispanic
Media Awards instead of buying a table at their event. SAAHJ will receive 4
tickets to attend the media awards in exchange for 4 tickets to the
Association’s scholarship gala.
New Business
Membership Renewals
Elaine announced
that membership renewals are due on July 21.
Nominations for 2007-2008 Board
of Directors
Elaine
also reminded all members that nominations for board officers will be made
at the June meeting. Voting will take place during the July general
meeting.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:35 a.m. so members
could attend sessions from the National Writers Workshop
Next meeting: June 16 at San Antonio River
